The VALBEC Annual Report for 2011was presented at the AGM on 25 May, 2012.
The committee for 2012 -2013 comprises the following people elected as office bearers:
John Radalj and Sandra Wolfe Co-presidents, Lynne Matheson Secretary, Ann Haynes Treasurer.
The following people were elected as general committee members:
Pauline O’Maley, Paul Rawlinson, Linno Rhodes, Sandie Forbes, Ann Irving, Shanta Nazareth and Digna Libera.
The following people were co-opted as general committee members:
Jan Hagston and Natasha McCormick.
We thanked retiring committee members Kerrin Pryor, Marie Bonne and Yvonne Russell for their commitment and contributions.
The next committee meeting will be held on Wednesday 20 June.

The survey seeking your input about numeracy resources has been a great success with nearly 120 respondents. Prizes will be sent shortly to the first 20 people who identified themselves when they responded.
The input will be used by VALBEC in developing numeracy resources.
During the VALBEC conference, a group of 18 teachers, many literacy teachers teaching numeracy, met to discuss the development of the Numeracy Network.
The Numeracy Network will provide for ongoing dialogue to discuss such topics as sharing resources, pedagogy, curriculum, and issues relating to numeracy teaching. Given the difficulty for many of attending regular meetings it was agreed that VALBEC will set up a Numeracy wiki.

VALBEC 2012 conference William Angliss Conference Centre, Friday May 25
The conference proved to be a successful day with the tone set by some very tuneful singing with Chris Falk (Alexander Education) leading the audience. Workshops were noisy and full of interaction and focussed activity. One session produced some excellent speeches that were shared at the end of the day and another produced a recording of a rap about dreams. Thanks to all the presenters and participants. William Angliss Conference Centre staff once again providing excellent service.
In lieu of a gift to presenters, VALBEC made a donation of $ 1,000 to CARE Australia for the Getting Girls in Schools in Cambodia appeal.
We've started to add presenter files to the conference website.
Call for papers and presentations closed on 28 May. Watch the website for further announcements about registrations and program details. It's expected that fees will be announced and registrations will open shortly.
Australian students ranked second of participating countries in an international assessment of digital reading literacy, with girls performing better than boys, according to an ACER report released in May.
Investment in increasing adult literacy and numeracy levels may be one of the keys to boosting Australia’s productivity, delegates at the first national conference on adult language, literacy and numeracy assessment were told in May.
ACFE, ACE, RTO and TAFE managers can post adult literacy, language and numeracy practitioner job ads in eVALBEC. Send your request (50 words limit) to info@valbec.org.au by the 26th of the month.
