If you are an Adult and Community Education (ACE) course provider it is important to be aware of when you need to pay or charge GST on the sales and delivery of ACE courses.

3. Excellence in LLN Practice Award Open

LLN teachers do amazing and inspiring things with our students day in and day out. Have you started, ran and completed a project with your students or staff recently that has made a real impact, or perhaps your years of innovative work is something you can sit down and write about? Have you shown leadership in your LLN community in the VET sector? All this and more allows you to take your place as an applicant for the Excellence in Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice Award for the 2018 Australian Training Awards. It is direct entry and you can be nominated by peers or yourself. Take the time. You deserve to be recognised.

Opening and closing dates differ depending on which award category you apply for.

4. Cultural Competence Program - SBS

The Cultural Competence Program (CCP) is an online training course aimed at building capability around cultural diversity in the workplace. It features engaging multimedia learning modules and a wealth of resources.

For businesses, the CCP can be delivered to employees via app, online, LMS or blended learning.

Individuals can access the CCP via an app. It is a recognised CPD activity for some Australian organisations.

LWA is looking for qualified EAL/LLN teaching professionals who will add value to our team. Experience teaching, assessing and application of the ACSF in the AMEP / SEE Program is essential. Positions are yearly casual contracts based in Melbourne, with frequent travel required.

6. New Numeracy Resource

Numeracy: teaching maths in context by Dave Tout is a new publication from Multifangled. In the resource Dave describes an approach to teaching maths based on applied and contextual learning principles where the teaching and learning of maths starts from a contextual, task based and investigative point of view and the maths is developed from the context and task. 

The approach is helpful for teachers of students who need a practical rather than formal mathematical background for their everyday life skills and further education, training or work aspirations. The text illustrates how this approach works through some sample contexts such as cars and driving, sport, cooking and catering, and draws together mathematics from the areas of number, measurement, space, data and statistics, and algebra. Worksheets to support the activities are available online at multifangled.com.au

7. Fine Print in 2018

Huge thanks to Lynne Matheson. who has retired after editing the journal for 4 years. Welcome to Deryn Mansell our new editor. Deryn is a published writer, experienced editor and teacher.
The Fine Print editorial group are working together with Deryn to bring you the first edition for 2018 which will be out in April. We will bring you a range of inteetsting articles with the usual features, 'practical matters', book reviews and stories of successful programs in the field.
