3. Fine Print is out now

Stella Windridge inputIf you are a VALBEC member you have probably just received your latest copy of Fine Print (and if you haven't, it won't be far away).

For this issue, we asked some graphic design students to give us their visual take on the theme of literacy.

We've reproduced Stella Windridge's playful contribution here so you can appreciate the original colour version. Shaira Martinez's response to our brief combines written and visual texts and in the journal we offer some suggestions for how you might use it as a conversation starter with your students.

If you're not an individual member of VALBEC (and even if you are) you can ask your institution's library to subscribe to Fine Print so you can share it with your colleagues.

Please contact fineprint@valbec.org if you have a proposal for a future article or review.

6. Reading Writing Hotline Anniversary

Redaing Writing Hotline

Congratulations to the Reading and Writing Hotline's 25th Anniversary.

The occasion was celebrated in Sydney on 15 April, where many committed adult literacy providers and practitioners gathered. The Reading and Writing Hotline is as relevant today as it was 25 years ago.

Fun fact – did you know that the R&W hotline came to be through the popular TV show – The Reading and Writing Roadshow?

You can view all the R&W Hotline ads here.

7. Learn Local Course Guide

A Learn Local Course Guide has been developed. The Guide was launched by the Minister for Training and Skills and has been strongly endorsed by Learn Local providers as a valuable marketing and promotion tool. The Guides have been designed for public display and to enable staff in community organisations to better understand and refer adult learners to appropriate local training options.

April- May:  Distribution of Course Guides to key organisations by Learn Local providers.
