Tricia Bowen, teacher, writer and researcher will provide an overview of her current research: a project exploring connections between philosophy, ethical theory and the work of teaching and learning. This research aims to investigate how teachers can promote trust, empathy and practical wisdom in their classrooms, and how this might impact on student learning and success.
The forum will be followed by the AGM.
Members and friends are invited to the Annual General meeting to be held after the forum 'At the heart of teaching and learning'

The next edition of Fine Print will include a section of writing by students and teachers.
With the broad theme of 'significant others', whether they be family, friends, teachers or other role models, students are asked to write about how they have been an influence in their life and/or education.
We welcome both poetry and prose and will consider images or artwork as appropriate.
Nominations are now open for the 2015 Victorian Learn Local Awards – proudly brought to you by the Adult, Community and Further Education Board. The Awards are the ACFE Board’s major opportunity to recognise and reward the outstanding achievements of organisations, programs and individuals within the Learn Local education and training sector.
Thanks to those who have paid their membership promptly.

VALBEC is observing 2015 as the International Year of Light (and light based technologies). Each month a VALBEC committee member will provide some resources, inspired by the Year of Light, for the classroom or of general interest to students to use as a springboard for thinking, researching, talking or writing.
In this issue Lynne Matheson offers ideas about the 'Language of Light'. How 'light' it takes on all kinds of meanings and how writers have used language and imagery about light and darkness to reflect on the human condition.
ACER is developing the comprehensive Foundation Skills Assessment Tool (FSAT) for the Department of Industry. Trials of FSAT have now commenced, and we have a special offer of free L&N resources for those RTOs who participate fully in the trial. The trials will continue until at least the end of April 2015. Providers receive reports of each learner's performance against the skill in the relevant framework. Suitable for 2015 pre-training LLN assessments.
The Master Builders Association of Victoria is seeking an experienced WELL trainer to provide LLN support for students enrolled in a range of programs including:
CPC40110 Certificate IV in Building & Construction (Building)
CPC50308 Diploma of Building & Construction (Management)
BSB30712 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety
BSB41412 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety.
Prior experience in delivering integrated LLN support for adult vocational learners is essential.

We seek relevant, current, informative and captivating sessions on issues and practices that relate to LLN in VET, ACE or industry. We strongly encourage researchers, practitioners and providers to consider submitting an abstract.
In preparing their abstracts, presenters should keep in mind the themes of the conference:
Resilience – effectively adapting and dealing with change for the existing and future workforce
Risk – managing pressures resulting from Commonwealth and State government funding changes and meeting national & international LLN standards
Preservation – acknowledging and building on achievements to date
Presentations can be either 45 minute presentation or 1.5 hour workshop.
Abstracts should be submitted by 4 May 2015.
